Olympians seeks strength through Buddhist meditation

Most Ven Bogoda Seelawimala Thera is in charge of the Buddhist shrine at the London Olympics. He provides spiritual guidance to the 500 Buddhist athletes that are competing in 2012, as well as a number of non-Buddhists, mostly from Asian countries.

Thera, who is originally from Sri Lanka, says his aim is to give them spiritual strength as they compete in the international competition, reports the BBC.

“When whoever comes to my shrine first of all I welcome them, and discuss whatever their problems are and then encourage them to do a little meditation which is helpful for them to balance their mind and relax their mind.”

“As they are under immense pressure sometimes they are stressed due to their competitions so following meditation technique I do a chanting to confer blessings to them. My aim is to give them strength in their search of Olympic medals.”
